Honestly looks like its trying a bit too hard to focus on the man and not his work.
Just read supernatural horror in literature and then take a tour of his better work. Colour out of space, the call of cthulhu, shadow over innsmouth, the dunwhich horror, some of the more fantasy stuff like the other gods or the doom that came to sarnath. You don't need someone to try and make his life in to an essay to give you an opinion, you're a big boy.

I just looked the book up and it seems like it's got some kind of central thesis, what with arranging all its contents the way it does. Maybe that's just my prejudices talking though.
Go ahead if you think it is interesting, but honestly lovecraft is pretty damn accessible. I would recommend just reading some of his work and then deciding whether you want to get in to miscellanea. It would take you one afternoon to decide if you think he is worth any further consideration.
