The 20th century was, by far, the absolute most horrific time to be alive in human history for the majority of people. In all honesty, his work is great to get you started off. His writings aren't meant to be intellectual or innovative, just a how to guide for those in the deepest pits of life - it's why i think people who live relatively normal lives will not benefit from it.

I know a lot of things he says are common sense, but when you are rock bottom and staring at a wall for hours with suicidal thoughts, sometimes you need a small father figure to tell you simple things to sort your shit out.

It honestly does help. Cleaning your room, exercising, and sticking to a strict diet got rid of my suicidal thoughts and that's enough for me.
