Don't coddle the little shit is my advice. The more you mess with your cat the better they'll be in the long run.

Also, don't let it outside unless you want to spend a bunch of money on vet bills and the constant potential of it never coming home.

Eh, it cares about you somewhat and there is a connection between you and the animal. As you intimated, it is not a replacement for genuine human interaction or companionship.

My cat has taught me many things about life, love, GOD, responsibility, obligations, and commitments. He has made me happy at times and has been a tremendous pain and burden at others. He is, however, far from being a surrogate child to me.

signs like ears down and tail whipping frantically mean they're stressed, get the fuck away and give them space or catch these paws
the book said they like being spoken to in a high pitched voice, mine seems happy enough
letting them outside is overrated, they like to establish a "territory" and neighboring cats and other animals and people disrupt this instinct, leading to constant fighting for space, stress, and worry even when your cat is indoors
absolute best case is a house with an enclosed (with chicken wire or similar) space outdoors with a tree, so kitty can "be outside" with no threats

Keep him inside. Doubles his life expectancy.
Neuter him. Also adds years to their life expectancy, apparently cat reproductive systems runs hot and are prone to critical failures.
If you start early using taps to show when you want him to come, he'll catch on quickly.
Don't ever bother bying them toys beyond the laserpointer. The wrapping will always be more interesting than the gift.
Cats are driven by food and comfort. Feed them and give them a warm comfy place and they'll love you for it.
People say to never play rough or let them bite you, but I say fuck that shit. Playing rough is how I tamed one of the wildest cat I've had.
If they are nervous or you need to move them, you can use lavender oil on a tissue and make them sniff it. It calms them a lot.
Also, if you let them go out, you can't bitch if other people are feeding them. Better that than killing random birds.
Here's my old girl sleeping in my shirt.

I love cats. Making them love you is easy. Heres what you do
>never touch it first, always let it come to you, especially in the beginning
>get down to the ground when interacting with it, move slowly
>blink at it. Always blink. Blinking is a communicative sign of trust with cats. Youre telling it that it can trust you
>if it blinks at you, take it as a sign of your bond being strengthened and trust beginning to form
>when it eats its food, stand close by, but not too close. Cats are vulnerable when eating, and if it realizes that you never take that opportunity to harm it, it will trust you more bc it knows you easily could
>when you begin petting it, pay attention to its reactions. All cats have different areas they dont like being touched, and varying amounts of touch that they can handle in one sitting. If it bites or raises its ears, stop, its getting agitated
>talk to it, constantly. Use a friendly reassuring voice. The more you talk to it, the more it grows accustom to your presence and voice.
>always make sure it has enough food, wet & dry. Eating only dry food can literally kill your cat.
>massage behind its ears and the back of its neck with the tips of your fingers when its laying down, most cats love it
>if you ever accidentally hurt it, like step on it or something, immediately apologize to it and show it affection. It needs to know it was a mistake.

I fucking love cats.

Only thing ill say about that; be careful with their teeth. You can loosen them over time if youre not careful and/or potentially knock one out of place. Most humans are retarded. Just look at how many people believe in the jab, promote globohomo values, act degenerate, have poor taste in art, and etc. Honestly, I don't like the idea of people having free will outside of what I dictate is best. My pets are my surrogate children because I don't want much from them. With each of my human friends, it always reaches a point of war over ideals. There were times I felt like picking up a sword and chopping them all up due to disagreement over philosophy.

It's more of a personal problem from you in that you're willing to tolerate people with different ideals. There is too much variance in the mentalities of mankind, especially in fundamental and core values, hence why either mankind should speciate into something better or go extinct. There are no stable constraints, hence why trash like globohomo can be born in the first place. I took a young stray unsprayed male into my house some 3 months ago. He basically stays in one empty room all the time (doesn't want to socialize) only going to the kitchen when he's hungry and to his loiter box in some other room (I've kicked him out of the house for a week at the beginning when he pissed on a sofa so he got smarter this time). Nature doesn't care that majority of cats are constantly being selected negatively for being too stupid or too weak to survive in nature (or in a modern city environment) but if you are feeling responsible for one particular specimen then you start to think twice before letting him constantly try his luck.
Cats which spend a lot of time in a friendly indoor environment already have their senses suppressed, they risk even more.

Fml, my browser crashed and my list got deleted.

Last try.

From authors (and an editor):
Ernie, Albert, George, Tommy, Zelda, Dick, Alex, Gerdie
(Hemmingway, Camus, Mann, Fitzgerald, Bruce Nugent, Zholsjinitsyn, Stein)

From characters and/or symbols:
T.J., Alice, Joseph, Napoleon, Mersault, Ivan, Anton, Lennie, Starbuck, D'artagnan(athos, porthos, Aramis, depending on the cat's temperament ofc).

Just make sure to name your cat something that matches its behavior. If you have a spazz ball, T.J might be a really bad choice, for instance.

I let mine on the porch so he gets a taste of the elements, but he proved himself to be a very poor outdoor cat when I had to amputate his tail.

You can do whatever you like with cats, but outdoor ones get in more fights, need more vet care, and live shorter lives.

I can’t have pets at my current place but when I do get a cat I’ve thought of naming it Kiyo after Kiyoaki from Spring Snow. But I think I’ll feel too much like a faggot weeb saying it out loud all the time. My family always had one cat and two dogs when I was growing up, so we usually just called the cat “kitty” or “the cat” anyway.

I guess it also depends on the cat and where you live. Some pedigree cats have been bred to such a degree that their instincts are numbed, so they would be best kept indoors. If you live in the centre of a big city I'd also maybe hesitate to let it outdoors, but if you live in the suburbs of a medium sized town or smaller it should be fine for the average cat. I'd feel bad for my cat if I locked it up inside all day

Properly feeding a cat is a huge problem, the "vets" shill commercial food like madmen, but they admit that there is no research as to the diet for cats longevity. In effect cats still often die in their middle age (like if humans were dying commonly in their fifties) while developing many civilizational diseases which require constant medical care (duh).
After my previous cat died of cancer I am trying natural diet this time - slightly modified recipe from this page:
https://catinfo.org/making-cat-food/
(btw, it was already working terrific for my sick cat as well, but too little too late)

Wet food is convenient enough that I occasionally give it to mine as well, but he clearly prefers meat when given a choice.
Cheap wet food he'd just ignore (we give it to some birds visiting the backyard), decent commercial food he _might_ eat when hungry, but he waits for meat.
Btw, even birds pick up his leftover meat food before they eat "their" wet food.

I specifically seek out higher quality wet foods with a lower protein content. He has kidney disease and has had an improvement in his chart numbers.

He also only has canines, so wet food is easier for him to eat. I do give him little treats of grated cheese(just one sliver) or will make a piece of unseasoned meat whenever I cook. I also give him sniffs of everything I cook with, even though he won't touch fruits. It's just too cute watching him stand up.
