I genuinely loved it from my first read.

Everything from Thecla onwards was utterly captivating, and the analeptic feast in Claw is genuinely my favourite scene in any book.

Short sun>new sun

I was going to ask actually how urth sun and the long/short sun series were, I've never heard much about them and I kind of figured the series would have pulled a Dune by that point

Most people who are autistic about this series find short sun better than long sun, I personally find it nearly as good. The characters are better but the story is better/worse depending on preference. They definitely don’t pull a dune and hold up but long sun for sure drags on, the third and fourth book are just slow and tedious but you have to real long sun before short sun

>It is said that in ancient times there were both men and women in the
guild, and that sons and daughters were born to them and brought up in the mystery, as is now the ease among the lamp-makers and the goldsmiths and many other guilds.
>But Ymar the Almost Just, observing how cruel the women were and how often they exceeded the punishments he had decreed, ordered that there should be women among the torturers no more.
what did he mean by this?
