yes, it's incredibly good but a text that really wanders
he was influenced by cioran during this time in his life, so I'd recommend looking at 'a short history of decay' and especially 'fall into time' and 'the new gods' beforehand
also it introduced me to klages, so mentally prepare for that
another strong recommendation (for before or after reading) is mircea eliade's 'myth of the eternal return' to really flush out martin's meta discussions about history
