It's hard to put into words how extreme the situation of not being valued is. You're working for minimum wage at a company that wants to pay you even less money but can't so they go out of their way to stick it to you and act like they're doing you a favor by keeping you on. They keep you doing useless little tasks for the whole fucking day and never let you chill out and enjoy downtime since you're a piece of shit and need to desperately try to earn your useless wage. There was this whole obsession over bringing all the products to the front of the rack whenever a customer bought something so you were expected to be constantly running around trying to uselessly move around products to make the dirty discount store look like the perfect version of a dirty discount store. They enforced this by keeping around retarded managers, who make less money than a box packager at amazon would, who were bullied so hard that they're happy to just nominally be in charge so they can bully you and unironically virtue signal about the ethic of busting your ass doing useless tasks for minimum wage.

All retail stores have the 'frantically run around and make everything perfect whenever you have one free second' element and the fact that none of these retards complain about it shows me they consider themselves worthless.

>> No.19023627

Customers act the way they do because they have been trained like a dog to disasociate themselves from the employees. The employee is the physical manifest of a corporation, they are not real people, they are part of the system of commodifying absolutely everything that leads the brain dead consumer to their five minutes of dopamine as they pass over their little remaining power as physical currency on a plastic card in exchange for things they don't need. Four quarts of butter in your food at a nice dinner out fingered by the line cook that just fucked the waitress on the flour sack or possibly the obease little worker that sold you a tie who takes care of their grandmother. But none of it matters when the employee isn't part of a union or seen as a human being. No, just make them feel grateful for their 7.25 an hour 39 hours a week so they don't provide benefits and you have to work two jobs bullshit. It's all such fucking bullshit. Such systematic bullshit. What the anon was saying is true. The reddit attitude is basically like saying "If u don't call blacks niggers then racism is over!" It just doesn't work on a sociological level. Every single aspect of how these jobs work are made to extract value from a useless husk of a human being and eradicate any drive for potential that person ever had.

You sure about that? I feel like it depends on place and people. Mos people who were in service are pretty ok to service people. I was a wagie for years, and every day, at least one customer would come in with clear intent to create some triumphant customer service dispute story that they could us as bragging fodder to their retarded friends and family.

It’s hard to explain what I’m talking about, but often I would witness normally nice and reasonable customers put on this extremely contrived act of an appalled, scorned customer who has been mortally offended by our place of business. I could just tell that their attitudes and behaviors were the direct results of hearing their uncle Cletus say shit like “I walked right into that store and told them I wanted my goddamn money back or they’re gonna lose a loyal customer!” Some employees would play into the hysteria and give them the “I’m so sorry sir/ma’am, we’ll do everything we can to resolve this for you,” that they were expecting, but I knew it was all a front put up by the customer, because they’d stammer and panic, suddenly becoming self-aware and ashamed when the associate broke script by not sucking up to them and begging for their business.

I just think that for the most part, if you stand up for yourself as a wagie and disregard any training or management that directs otherwise, you’ll realize that these rude customers are merely convinced that they’re invincible due to the nature of their relationship to you. Once you make eye contact, use a stern voice, and blatantly call them out on their bullshit, 90% of the time, the customer will back down and suddenly try to be the “reasonable” one and act like there was some kind of misunderstanding, or they’ll just admit that the issue was their fault.
