What are some of the best written contemporary novels? I'm not looking for classics, I know that many of the best written works are older, but I'd love to read some great writing in more modern styles.

Can lit really not name any modern examples of great prose?

you appear to be labouring under the misapprehension that /lit/ reads books

Zadie Smith is a pretty competent writer, I enjoyed White Teeth.

Hey. That's my book you linked. Not sure why you would be encouraging people to take my creative work without compensating me. Pretty uncool if you ask me, especially from, presumably, a fellow creative. The truth is, I worked very hard on CotC and it was an uphill climb to get it published. That there are people like you deliberately cutting the legs out from under it if very disheartening.

Just thought you needed to hear the effect your actions have on others.

Tough question, looks like I haven't come across many. Piranesi by Clarke has some beautiful imagery which really draws you in. Han Kang's The Vegetarian also comes to mind (even if it's a translation), the parts with the painter are really excellent.
