If I had to fathom a guess it's because the modern world (especially the Anglosphere) has moved away from faith. I can't count how many of my friends are basically Existentialists but won't read Kierkegaard's later work because they don't like the conclusion he arrived at. They don't find meaning in a God they don't believe in, so they move into Nihilism or Absurdism.
