What is objectively the best Conan the Barbarian story?

>> No.18794974

Rogues in the house

>> No.18794979

>>18794931
To drive the pages before you. To hear the scoffs of the women and manchildren

>> No.18794986

>>18794931
It's a tie between
>The Queen of the Black Coast
>The Tower of the Elephant
>Beyond the Black River
>Red Nails
>The Hour of the Dragon
>The People of the Black Circle
>The Frost-Giant's Daughter
>Rogues in the House

>> No.18795042

>>18794931
The Hour of the Dragon is Howard's greatest Conan story
The other ones that are close to it
>Red Nails
>the people of the black circle
All others are at least enjoyable but they are in a tier below these 3

>> No.18795504

The Phoenix on the Sword

>> No.18796109

for me it's The Frost-Giant's Daughter

>> No.18796264

>>18796109
It's a shame it wasn't published till after Howard died

>> No.18796269

The one that always stuck with me was the one where he BTFO the chicken wizards.
Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

>> No.18796365

>>18796269
You'll have to elaborate. Chicken wizards? You mean like the one with the witch doctors that summon animals to attack prisoners?
If so it's beyond the black river

>> No.18796376

>>18796365
The enemy was a bunch of wizards, and they were described as avian looking or moving. He was helping some woman get something from them in their canyons, and ended up killing them despite being at a massive disadvantage.

I swear that there was one that had the word "Feud" in the title and it was about these two tribes locked in a generational blood feud and was stylistically based on Mesoamerica cultures and myths, and had Conan fighting

*A feathered serpent, but I cant find it anywhere

>> No.18796584

>>18796376
Ah ok I know what it is, people of the black circle. Yeah he has to go through the canyon and only makes it cause of his belt

>> No.18796590

>>18796398
>>18796409
Don't remember this one. If you can give me more details I might be able to. Could also be a Conan pastiche

>> No.18796615

Bump
Convince me to dive in please. Do I have to read them in order or is The Hour of the Dragon a good place to start? How long are the Conan stories usually btw?

>> No.18799000

>>18794931
Recently got into Conan. What's something like Conan that's come out recently?

>> No.18799036

>>18798154
There's a reading order chart floating around but I don't think I have it unfortunately.
