Thoughts on CCRU?

I’m buying some shit off Amazon and was considering getting this. I guess it’s early Nick Land, Mark Fisher, Sadie Plant, etc. From the book description:

Meshing together fiction, number theory, voodoo, philosophy, anthropology, palate tectonics, information science, semiotics, geotraumatics, occultism, and other nameless knowledges, in these pages the incomplete evidence gathered by explorers including Burroughs, Blavatsky, Lovecraft, Jung, Barker, J.G. Ballard, William Gibson, and Octavia Butler, but also the testimony of more obscure luminaries such as Echidna Stillwell, Oskar Sarkon, and Madame Centauri, are clarified and subjected to systematic investigation, comparison, and assessment so as to gauge the real stakes of the Time-War still raging behind the collapsing façade of reality.

Depends how versed you are in schizo stuff. If you haven't read any pomo it won't make much sense.

Not sure mate. I guess it’s some kind of pseudo mathematical diagram related to the contents, but if you could parse it out let me know

it's mostly Land's thinking. I'd recommend you read the 'Editors Introduction' to Fanged Noumena (written by Robin Mackay & Ray Brassier) to understand what the book's trying to do (as at one point they directly place the work of the CCRU in relation to the things Land was trying to do and explain it). The description, while it's interesting, doesen't really help to understand the point of the book.

I’ve read Thousand Plateaus but not Anti-Oedipus. As well as various schizo ramblings from pamphlets and shit at noise shows. But I’m not really familiar with Land and the gang, although I understand that this was before Land really went off the right wing deep end

Okay, I’ll check that out. I’ll try and find that online before shilling out that much to buy Fanged Noumena. Appreciate the advice.

God knows if whoever made the diagram even understands it or if it just suited the aesthetic

Did you get anything out of that? I mean the worst thing about Deleuze is the amount of prerequisite reading (contintenal philosophy has suffered from extreme bloat from Hegel onward) but otherwise he is kino. Can't imagine just reading TP by itself though that must have been a headache.

It's a smiple diagram.
The fat arrows go like this:
6 - 3 = 3
5 - 4 = 1
8 - 1 = 7
7 - 2 = 5
9 - 0 = 9
There's a whole bunch of other connections and shit. It's all related to the 'Pandemonium' "demons". It's a divination device akin to the I-ching but for western audiences.
It's some gay stuff that caused Land schizophrenia.

Eh, I honestly just tried to read it in the sense that I was going along for the ride. I had read some Baudrillard beforehand and assumed that it would be in the same vein for some reason but was proven wrong. It was difficult to understand but I’d like to think I was able to parse out some little tidbits of insight. Does that make sense?

>I was able to parse out some little tidbits of insight
It is sort of written that way lol. The most conventional stuff is the solo stuff sans Guattari. I'd highly recommend Difference & Repetition, and Nietzsche & Philosophy, in that regard. But of course, you'd have to read Nietzsche first, Spinoza and Plato while you are at it. Could do Bataille or Bergson too. Kojeve, Hegel, Marx if you are extremely into quasi-scholastic autism.

I appreciate the helpful reply. For some reason I was prepared for /lit/ to gatekeep this stuff. I have read Nietzsche: the birth of tragedy, beyond good and evil, the gay science, Zarathustra. I read some of Plato’s dialogues in school but could probably benefit from a more comprehensive reread. Bataille has caught my eye before, would you recommend a good starting point?

Visions of Excess, which collects his earlier essays, and the first volume of the Accursed Share. At that point you perhaps either like him or hate him, and can go deeper from there or not.

It's hard to say it's anybody BUT Nick Land. It was written during the time after Sadie Plant left CCRU and when Nick Land took over. Of course Mark Fisher and others would have been involved but since everything written is anonymous or pseudonymous you have to wonder if it's possible one person wrote it all, and if anybody's a possibility it's Nick Land himself. Don't expect to see Plant or Fisher insights in this, it's just an exercise in creative Landian hyperstition.

I'm not sure if the topics within can be compared to current day Nick Land. It might even be farther removed than Fanged Noumena
I'd compare it to the more fiction-esque writing from FN, but instead of the "Techno-capital singularity" Land goes balls deep into stuff about monkeys with time powers and much more. Truth be told I am still trying to figure out the book but I can assure you it's a fun read
