Usually 1. 2 max. I read fairly quickly so it makes more sense to me just to burn through them 1 at a time.

One novel, one academic book of non-fiction, one volume of poetry.
I tend to read poetry in small bursts a few times a week, so I can give each poem due attention.

I had a really bad problem of buying books, getting about 50 to hundred pages in, then get excited about another one and buy it off Amazon. It became a really problem for me so I MADE myself finish a book before I started or bought another. I have such an insane backlog waiting for me right now. I usually read just one book, cover to cover, before starting another.

Sometimes I make an exception though for collections or short stories. For example, right now, I’m reading Atlas Shrugged while dipping into a short story from Labyrinths by Borges.

This excludes text books necessary for work obviously.
