I loaded up on Bataille during the Princeton sale earlier this year (they print Zone Books apparently). Not sure when they will do that again but it was a great way to build a collection. I'd already read some of him already so I had an idea of what I was getting. Pink book is compilation of his published pre-ww2 stuff. Not really an organic whole in any sense beyond that but shows how some of his ideas were developing. Very protean sort of period; Surya's book is a good companion to it.

We are not talking about whether you or I like Peterson or Evola or anything else. We are talking about Revolt as a work to be taken seriously. It inspired one of the great minds of the 20th century in Eliade who now inspires one of the most popular public intellectuals of our time in Peterson. Quit being so emotional.

At what moment did you opt in to being stupid? Perhaps you're the type who is incapable of entertaining a thought without accepting it. What a depressing decision to make, but you'll never really understand why.... You may notice that on the nation socialist's shelf is communist literature, but on the communist shelf is only communist literature. Regardless, I wish you nothing but wellness for the future.

Frankly, it is because everyone who hates him only hates him because muh alt-right and they were told to. You guys tend to fall in line a lot, but I think it's just an ideological thing.
>viciously shallow

I'm curious about what it is about people like you treating people who hold a different viewpoint like this. I can't remember the last time I spoke to someone who disagreed with me who hasn't used some sort of personal attack.
For what it is worth, I'm very open minded to various ideas, 30+, and I've never had to read philosophy for any schooling, but my shelf has Plato, Spinoza, Niezsche, Guenon, etc. I do believe you're just mistaking my pattern matching with believing it impossible to disagree with him. This is an understandable misunderstanding when you feel defensive. Also, I don't agree nor disagree with him, I've just been enjoying his content.
So anyways... Have you read him?

Really good. Pretty much no politics, just down to earth life advice.

Some guy on here was trying to shit on it a little while ago by calling it the "layman's Meditations". Which was supposed to be an insult, but I'm sure Peterson would appreciate the comparison.
The advice isn't anything super ground breaking, but it is good.

I've mentioned this story once or twice so I'll try to be brief;

I happened to look through it when I was reading something else and noticed Ch. 3, "Befriend People Who Want the Best for You". Well it just so happens that I subtlety but definitely just lost a friend who I had been close to for about a decade. I didn't really know what happened at the time, but he had gotten married (I as also friends with his now wife), and everyone in our friend group, about 8 friends that had been friends for about a decade, had been invited except me. And I wasn't sure why.

Well my friend was a fervent atheist and had an extremely apathetic demure. Well it just so happens that he was extremely resentful to me because I had had a discussion with his gf about the nature of morality. It wasn't heated, no one left angry, I actually really enjoyed it (even though it was fruitless), and we all just play some board game afterward. I didn't think anything of it, and he didn't let on that it bothered him.

Longer story short, because he uses apathy as a way to cover up his issues with anger, that most likely stem from his relationship with his very religious parents, I had no idea we weren't friends. He would then not speak to or hang out with me, and this culminated with me not being invited to his wedding. I only figured out that this man who I considered a dear friend for a decade, was not my friend at all, and had a lot of anger and resentment for me, after the fact. And he also tried to draw people in the friend group away from me, and was somewhat successful. At least, it feels that way.

I was completely blindsided. I had no closure or a way to get closure. And Ch. 3 helped me come to terms with that because it helped me understand why I am legitimately better off without him in my life.

This is too close to a real thing that happened to me. It's not 1:1 but if it was mildly changed up, because it could be, as I only invited one of my friends to my very small supposed to be family-only wedding.
If your name is Daniel, I'm sorry about bailing and not inviting you. I bailed on everyone though, because I just don't want to be around other people ever. I left everyone's lives as soon as I could. I didn't invite you because my wife didn't trust you because she was worried about people picking at my trust issues, considering the majority of my friend group basically lied and stabbed me in the back, repeatedly. You were a cool dude to hang out with, but I dealt with some serious issues and basically the only way I can be happy is when I'm almost completely alone.

There are certain beliefs that I keep to myself around friends because I know they are taboo but despite how different their views are from mine (they are liberals and libertarian socialists and I'm a closeted nationalist), I still care about our friendships and their well being. Some of them even talk about how much white people suck all the time and while that can get annoying, I try to just change the subject instead of getting into an argument about it. I wish we could have a real discussion but I know that my beliefs are too heretical. What exactly was the conversation about? You said it involved the nature of morality but that's not very specific.
