The old Nancy Drew books, originally published in the 30s, were changed, abridged, altered in the 50s (took out the parts where Nancy was suspicious about a Jew) and again in the 70s (took out the part where Nancy and her friends spent a lot of time shopping for clothes).

Journey to the Center of the Earth has two different English translations. One translation changed the characters names and mixed up the chapters. Yes, I mad that I read that one before I knew how shit it was
> The novel's first English edition, translated by an unknown hand and published in 1871 by the London house Griffith & Farren, appeared under the title A Journey to the Centre of the Earth and is now available at Project Gutenberg.[1] A drastically rewritten version of the story, it adds chapter titles where Verne gives none, meanwhile changing the professor's surname to Hardwigg, Axel's name to Harry, and Gräuben's to Gretchen. In addition, many paragraphs and details are completely recomposed, and its text as a whole has been excoriated by scholars as one of the poorest extant Verne translations.

This is the reason Moby-Dick doesn't feel as long as it actually is. I easily read like 80 pages a day when I read it the first time, and it felt like nothing.
