What is it about Romance novels that attract Dictators? Benito Mussolini wrote The Cardinal's Mistress, Napoleon Bonaparte wrote Clisson et Eugénie, and Saddam Hussein wrote Zabibah and the King.

Nero was also a poet. Pretty good stuff too. You could make a whole chart filled with stuff made by Dictators

If you're responsible for ordering executions and starting wars, you might feel the need to demonstrate to people (and yourself) that you have a 'softer side', and aren't just the brute your enemies claim you are.

Mussolini wrote his novel 13 years before he came to power. Napoleon around 4 years prior. Do your research

>> No.18212827

>>18212795
Napoleon wrote it many years before he came to power. If I'm not wrong, it was before Toulon, after he had been rejected by Desirée. The novel is actually a massive cope, where the hero is a young officer just like Napoleon who dies in a battle while the girl is a bitch who cheats on him.

>> No.18212877

>>18212827
Napoleon and Desirée broke off in 1795. 4 years before his coup d'état. But yes there is an autobiographical aspect to the book. It's actually not that badly written and it I recommend it none the less. Such a shame the only women who seemed to care for him as much as he did for them was his mother, his sister Pauline, and his greatest mistress Marie Walewska which he had a child with.
