Keep the Aspidistra Flying by Orwell. Guy in interwar London is an aspiring poet grappling with being a piece of shit but secretly kinda liking it and resenting middle class life he could have if he could live with selling out and writing for an ad firm. Solid read and one of his overlooked novels.
