How can we get people to read better literature and consume better art? Every single time this thread is made everyone is pessimistic and say it isn't possible and that the masses are doomed.

>> No.18000029

Why do you care about what the masses do? It would be better for everyone if they were illiterate.

first you have to define and measure the quality of the literature

I don't have an answer but I think the approach is mostly about instilling a sense of curiosity in people. Most will go "oh I don't have time for that I'm too busy", but what this really translates to is "I'd rather spend what free time I have watching Netflix or something". You somehow have to convince them that literature will benefit them more than Netflix. How to do that exactly, I don't know.

People are slaves to their genetics. If they are genetically predisposed to be dumb then they will be dumb. If they are genetically predisposed to having intellectual curiosity then they will be intellectual curious. Stop glorifying human beings we are an undignified species dragged forward by a few extraordinary individuals.

The way to get people to read better literature and consume better forms or art, is to have children, and read to them as children. And instead of always reading them stupid stories that have no meaning to them at all, read them things that aren't pointless. Teach them about literary arts. Buy them books. Take them to museums and art galleries. Teach them the histories. Adults aren't going to change over the things that they like, so the best way to remedy this is to have children and start there. Being a good parent that's not totally whacked out and only wants to teach their kids what's "in" is how we can reintroduced things of actual culture.

Genetics may play a part, but, you know, you can always take things into your own hands and do things differently. You can genetically inherit something, like a personality trait, and you know, break that chain. Kinda like I did with my addiction. Addiction ran in my family for years. I am only of the only ones who broke the chain and got clean. You do realize that you don't have to be a slave to your genetics, right? Unless it's a disease like Schizophrenia or Diabetes. That was quite a dumb statement, my friend.

I hate poptimism and the widespread intolerance for anything deemed "gatekeeping" or "elitism". Our critics are politicized and incapable of discerning good from garbage, to them WAP is worthy of accolades. Expertise has died alongside attention spans with the rise of the Web 2.0 and mediocre "content creators". Art is dead. Culture is dead. People are all too glad to consume shitty art, a great artist would not be valued or funded, he'd be drowned out in all the noise. It's ogre.

unironically embrace dark academia.

Who gives a shit if someone is reading Dostoyevsky aesthetically? If you actually believe that literature is powerful, you'll be okay with people reading great literature for any reason because it will still affect them.

The truth is that it's impossible to know the "right" reasons to read a book before you've read that book. So why worry so much about getting books in hands by saying whatever you have to tell people?

I mean, can anybody here deny that when they first started reading seriously, they didn't have any egoistic reasons for doing so? And didn't that have to do with the fact that great books had a certain prestige associated with them? There's nothing wrong with that, we should be encouraging society to fetishize learning and literature a little bit -- and the smart people who get in for those reasons will figure it out eventually

making and discussing good entry level charts. i know its always been 4chan's schtick to be like an elitist little club, but you gotta have a good way for interested people to get into literature. "start with the greeks" is a meme for a reason because its a terrible way to start and it can put a lot of people off.

Best post in the thread. Most people have never read and chances are they never will. Not that it means the proportion of people reading couldn't and shouldn't be higher, but it sure as hell won't be if (you), a person interested in the matter, are yourself sitting around browsing 4chan instead of picking a random book from one of those charts and actually reading it.

This is what secret societies were supposed to be for. Men of genuine intellectual significance have always worked through a private symposium.
The "public square" beloved of classical liberals never contributed a thing. Its only purpose is to let the masses pretend they are part of the conversation.

Positive feedback loop:
Women get rights/freedom > Women increase demands > Men simp > Women get more rights/freedom
Increased demand on men = more incels
Demands reach critical mass = even some chads become volcel
Incels have nothing to lose, so they become nihilists. Active nihilists destroy, while passive nihilists consoom.
Volcels become monks. Retain skills and knowledge from dying civilization.
Social order collapses. Alpha males take over and become kings. Compete with each other.
Women and workers are plentiful, but mental labour is hard to come by. Kings need monks to compete, so the church becomes the highest authority.
Church abolishes all women's rights.
