it's so draining. It's so hard core. It's so addictive. Just some insane imagery. And when it's all over I realize I had no idea what I was reading. This requires a buddy read

It really was. Does not change that Cormac did it better the second time around.

I’m not sure which was better. The movie was so faithful to the book, I don’t think I’ve seen another adaptation of a book that is so close in tone.

Cormac has a problem conveying emotion, everyone seems so detached. The movie wins out because of the emotion.

the movie leaves out bits at the end and that tips the scale in favor ofthe book imho.

The book gave away too much at the end, I liked it better with Anton being a mystery, he just shows up at the start and disappears at the end.

>> No.17991845

>>17991787
i think the movie gives the impression that anton may be caught by leaving out the interrogations of the two kids whereas in the book it is established that he won. also, the fact that we know to a certainty that he didn't want the money for himself is good for his character.

The movie strongly suggests that he gets away and makes it clear that he has little interest in the money, Woody explains it outright and Anton's actions throughout the movie make it fairly obvious.

The movie adaptations of the road and no country are so unaltered that if you prefer them to the books it just means you dont like reading

What are some books like Blood Meridian? Is the Revenant any good? I want one with the same Heideggerian-Gnostic-Heroic philosophical theme, preferably with lots of violence

The Revenant doesn't have any of those themes; book is a pretty straight historical fiction survival-revenge story. Decently written, nothing special; worth checking out if you're into that kind of stuff, but the only thing it has in common with BM is that they both take place in America before the Civil War (I actually think that the main character finds himself in Nacogdoches in a flashback). The movie on the other hand has a lot of metaphysical themes added that weren't in the book–ironically, if you want something similar to BM, watch the movie of the Revenant instead of reading the book.
