Should I get the Illustrated Mythology by Edith and Jim Tierney or just a regular version?

Regular version is fine. Illustrations are nice at times but they’re unimportant.
That books sucks anyways. I’m almost through with it and goddamn it’s a slog at times.

I think the consensus here is that the first guide in OP is the better one.

It's nice that she mentions the authors she took the stories from, so right from the start you get a sense of their individual styles.

On the other hand, her stories are often a mix of more than one wildly different author. The fall of Troy goes from heroics of Virgil to a tearjerker of Euripides, without a clear explanation that these parts of the story were entirely different genres.

I think it's pretty good to give you the basics and you should fly by, since you'll read the same things later on in detail and multiple times. I've read another book on Greek mythology before and that one was way more boring and confusing.

Mix both of them, since >>17986351 is lacking in aristophanes, aeschylus, euripides and xenophon and >>17986401 has only Metaphysics when it comes to Aristotle's works
