books on parenting are awful and extremly patronizing, they differ in opinion and have little to no scientifc evidence to back their nonsense up, they will often cite what 'mother' or 'granny' used to do as a way to make you think their 'wisdom' is aged authorotive and from their wise ol' gran. its nonsense and usualy full of time wasting anecdotes, i would instead reccomend the child development literature:

jean piget
lev vygotsky
although these are less modern in reaserch now, they are still very helpful in understanding child development and what to expect.
