Hi lit. I'm mentally challenged. I can only read about 15 books a year, because when I try to read difficult works, I cannot get through them very fast. I wish that I had what it took to be a great reader, but I am biologically inferior due to my reading speed.

I wish it was okay, but I feel the determinism of biological limitations and it fills me with sorrow.

15 books is more than what 99.9 percent of people read. You're good.

Pessoa, Borges, Cold Mountain, Zizek, Cioran, Adorno, Hegel's phenomenology of spirit with Sadler's lectures. I jump back and forth between these. I like shorter aphoristic stuff

You're not mentally retarded, you're just an asshole looking for external validation. Fuck you.

Zizek got a second PHD at 35 and has probably read thousands of books. Him and most PHDs have read so much and can read very fast. I cannot.

good shit. i think ill read that soon after im done with the book im currently reading
why do you jump between diff books like this? is it more fun that way?
also in general these books dont seem like the sort that is bad to read slowly of. honestly, there is a virtue to reading slow as well though i guess it makes seeing the larger picture harder

Some people just zoom through books. I jump between different books because in books that aren't a unified subject, it's not like you need to carry the train of thought with you to the next part. It depends on my mood. Hegel requires a little dedication but I'm on a Hegel break. Just finished annotating and summarizing the book up to the psychology section in the Reason section.

hmm i see. i should try reading less systematic stuff on the side. better use of one's time than browsing 4chan when i get mentally exhausted. btw did you see that one thread about this guy who apparently read at superhuman speeds (>>/lit/thread/S17322119)? honestly don't believe it, and even if it was true, idk how you can enjoy that. even having to reread passages over and over isnt a bad thing. means your brain is putting in work and growing

Yes. Our biological limitations, coupled by the effects of our environment, create prisons that are difficult for us to perceive, let alone tear down. We suffer because we are not dead.
