100 books is about the number at which you start to not care (physically) about them. the first two or three shelves are always magical, then it wears off.

Bit weird, just today I decided to count how many books I've read and it was exactly 100.

Having a highly selected personal library is one of the most based things I can think of.

having a lot of books on a shelf is literally just "hurrr look how well-read i am". 90% of them you'll read exactly once. better to own 10-20 beloved books that you read repeatedly that 200 that your children will have to throw away for you when you die

>> No.17783115

>>17783057
Exactly. However we must admit that there are books that you keep more for reference than else. For example a complete-poems edition of an author, or a tome with his letters... You won't read them in entirety, but keeping them to read a random page every now and then is nice.

>> No.17783132

You fags are just jealous than some people have more books than you. Seriously, who is retarded enough to care so much about how many books other people has?

Do you own 20 pairs of shoes? Think about this for 10 seconds, the more books you have > the wider the gap in regards to mediocrity and excellence. There are plenty of books to devote your life to.

I think book collection has merit in and of itself. It's neat having a large personal library. So what if I've only read it once?

Every shelf thread has people coping and seething. Every reading speed and page count thread has people coping and seething. Every goodreads thread has people coping and seething. It’s almost like a large population of this board are frauds and don’t even read books. They know they don’t belong here and lash out at the threads that they can’t partake.

It's simple!
I don't purchase a non-reference book until I've read in on my Kindle at least three times and have loved each read. This keeps the library small and manageable, and I don't spend unnecessary money. It also let's me splurge on expensive vintage hardcovers. Educational shit like my piano lessons I buy immediately if I can't pirate and print them.

>> No.17787973

>>17783057
Books are mostly there for reference. You could not read a book in 10 years but one day want to recall an exact passage so you take it down and flip to the relevant page.

>> No.17788104

I have around 250 books but they're all downloaded for free, I'll buy hardcovers of the ones that I'll eventually read and really like, and that is only when I have my own decent place and plenty of money to spend for fun
I recommend you only buy the books of the stuff you want to read but can't find online at first
