It's really just Southern Europe, France, England and Germany. North Europe hasn't given us much. Neither has Eastern. Asia (both near and far) have given us more than Eastern/Northern Europe. The Mediterranean has been the most consistently productive in literature since Antiquity.

You’re just wrong

The Scandinavian countries have produced nothing of serious note.
Neither have the Baltics.
Neither has Finland
Neither has Belgium or Switzerland or Luxembourg and so on
Spain only Cervantes.

So basically it’s Italy, Germany, France, UK, and Ireland.
On the other hand, countries like Russia and the USA have also produced great literature. Then also Israel with their mythology, China, Japan, India, loads of Latin American countries.

There's like 100 million Irish people in the world if you count all the mutts. Finland + Baltic states are hardly ten million. Besides, think about the geographical position. Historically speaking Ireland has seen much more action, Finland is one of the most remote locations in Europe, there's been literally nothing but forests and swamps.

Cringe arguments, Finnoid. The reason Ireland was able to develop a strong literary scene despite a small population is because they wrote in English and thus had access to a large readership. Irish literature isn’t really Irish literature — it’s english literature written by people from Ireland.
