Don't know much about DFW outside of the shitposting, never intend to read Infinite Jest, but looking through his library is interesting. Seems to be no rhyme or reason to most of it. Here are some interesting ones

He'd been depressed all his life. Also he was bright, to be sure, but wanted to be considered a genius--he wasn't: neither in his writing abilities nor in his quantitative one's. And so he also suffered severely from imposter syndrome. It really is sad, not least of which because he was an interesting voice to have around in public. Ultimately his suicide must be viewed as a product of psychosis or as a conscious aggressive act not only against himself, but also against others with whom he had been on intimate terns, namely certain women.

The same reason Kurt Cobain did. Both totally steeped in American popular culture while being utterly disgusted by it.

>One of the most powerful descriptions of suicide I've ever read. David Foster Wallace - Infinite Jest
"The so-called ‘psychotically depressed’ person who tries to kill herself doesn’t do so out of quote ‘hopelessness’ or any abstract conviction that life’s assets and debits do not square. And surely not because death seems suddenly appealing. The person in whom Its invisible agony reaches a certain unendurable level will kill herself the same way a trapped person will eventually jump from the window of a burning high-rise. Make no mistake about people who leap from burning windows. Their terror of falling from a great height is still just as great as it would be for you or me standing speculatively at the same window just checking out the view; i.e. the fear of falling remains a constant. The variable here is the other terror, the fire’s flames: when the flames get close enough, falling to death becomes the slightly less terrible of two terrors. It’s not desiring the fall; it’s terror of the flames. And yet nobody down on the sidewalk, looking up and yelling ‘Don’t!’ and ‘Hang on!’, can understand the jump. Not really. You’d have to have personally been trapped and felt flames to really understand a terror way beyond falling."

Man that’s hard to make heads or tails of without the context of his notes. There’s some pretty good works in there next to absolute trash that I wouldn’t give two seconds to. Then again maybe he knew it was trash and found value in that? It’s hard to tell really. The one Husserl book feels pretty out of place and I have to wonder if he bought it just for the name of the title. As for why he hanger himself, I don’t think any of us could know unless he directly gave a reason. A man’s inner world is a difficult thing and his art need not reflect it accurately. While I’m no fan of his it’s still rather sad when Anyone kills themselves, surely there must have been a ton of internal tension, melancholy and the like within him. A shame.

Bodybuilding manifests timeless principles into material reality, it makes men nearly immune to depression and psychological problems, and sculpts our bodies to what they used to be like before the Fall, but it's not the full package by itself that's why you need a strong ideology and spirituality on top of lifting and getting extremely muscular.

The homosexual embodies the decadence of modern relativism, once his sexual function is undermined he will adopt a worldview that allows it or promotes it as a good , and all such worldviews are deficient of timeless truth and a correct anthropology of man. >Doesnt jump because of hopelessness
Eloquently said, but hardly accurate. Being in that situation causes hopelessness, but just like the hopelessness of any other situation, it can be overcome if you're strong enough. I say this as someone thats been caught between the fire and fall, as someone who's life has made death seem preferable, and someone who's been lost in despair so many times that being brought to the edge is a fucking weekend tour. At the end of the day, you weren't strong enough. Your situation might have required you have a different kind of strength than you were expecting, but the result is all the same.
