Why are so many sci fi stories just normal stories with a few incidental sci fi elements thrown in? Most of the sci fi stories I've read you could strip of their science fiction elements and still have a totally cohesive story.

Most of the sci fi stories I've read you could strip of their science fiction elements and still have a totally cohesive story.
