Not the guy who posted it but imo Capital and Brave New World aren't really all the necessary to get the gist of the collection on the chart. If you want to understand the Marxists on the chart, I would read Marx, but that's up to you in the end. Whatever you do, don't start out reading Capital lol, you won't get it without reading some of his earlier works. Otherwise, go in the numbered order.

I would personally read ‘Value, Price, and Profit’ & ‘Wage Labour and Capital’ by Marx. These are two very short works that lay a basis for his political economy and mostly give you enough to work with. And then I would read ‘Imperialism’ & ‘State and Revolution’ by Lenin. These two are also short works. Shouldn’t take you more than a week to read all of this, if you’re slow.

That said, you could just read debord and be fine. Im just trying to get you to read Lenin.

The chart over all? You might miss some of the points the Marxist writers are making unless you have a greater understanding of Marx, but if you're okay with that then just finish the Marx-Engels reader. Otherwise I might consider reading some of the stuff Marx and Engels wrote. This guy >>17498309 isn't wrong but if you do choose to read Marx's works, also try Socialism: Utopian and Scientific and The German Ideology.

Not him but other than Imperialism’ & ‘State and Revolution, you might want to give Materialism and Empirio-criticism a read after you've read a good deal fo Marx (if you wish to do so). There's a collection of his works called Essential Works of Lenin: "What Is to Be Done?" and Other Writings, and I've heard good things about it, but I haven't read it all myself. The reason Lenin is important for that chart is because Lenin was a major influence on Gramsci, who influenced everyone on that chart (other than Heidegger I think).

I'm surprised you haven't heard of him, but I guess for people who are new to political philosophy he's a bit more obscure. His conception of hegemony influenced most techno-skeptics and political dissidents in general. there's more to it than that, but that's the basics of it, if you're reading modern political philosophy and it isn't liberal, there's a pretty good chance Gramsci has influenced it in some way.

Somehow I've never heard of this Francis Parkman's histories. I look it up on Gutenberg. Chapter 13's first sentence uses the word "blended." For some reason I find that odd. Neither Milton nor the King James Bible ever used that word, but Shakespeare used it repeatedly. Does anyone know why Milton and the King James Bible do not blend but Shakespeare and Francis Parkman do?

No idea. Gatekeepers' Remorse maybe? It doesn't seem to mean anything right away so I expect the chart maker just thought it sounded cool or it came out of a lost context during some discussion eg about gatekeeping leading to losing too many potential adherents and therefore regretting being so elitist and caving in to give some reccs. Or some occultist reference. Ask /x/ maybe

I just want to offer some constructive criticism. The problem with this looks like there is a lot of redundancy. I’m certain that you don’t need 16 different books on the origins of the war, especially when you have about 20 books giving a prehistory to the war.

If there are different schools of thought about the origins of the war, give one book for each school.

As for the war itself, I think this might be better structured if it first gives you one or two ‘overview’ books of the whole war, and then maybe a couple more that focused on specific aspects under served by the general overviews.

Also if you are going to include descriptions of each book they ought to be more focused on what differentiates them from the other book. Like ‘this book focuses on the military aspects’, ‘this book is mostly a social history of the home front’ etc.

I found a copy of both MacMillians and Clark’s history of the origins of the war, but I don’t really want to put the time into reading both. I’d really love to know what the top level difference between the two is.

Would be very helpful to be have read Descartes and Hume at minimum before Kant. Ideally you'd also be familiar with Leibniz, Spinoza, Locke and Berkeley but summaries are fine for those.

thanks for that, and I see where you are coming from, especially when there are multiple books of battles such as Verdun. The chart was created in response to various /his/ book threads where people would chime in and ask me to add this and that book, that in a way the chart is a dumping ground of recommended books. I also took some recommended books from the r/askhistorians sub about the topic. I haven't read all of the books in the chart either to be able to veto out what books are unnecessary and redundant since some subtopics can have varied analysis between different authors.

this one I kinda disagree with. The century prior to the war is a series of events that the sum of the total results in the war itself. I think that I should make it obvious to users to start in a specific book (A World Undone) for the best overview of the war as an intro of what the War was before they can branch out into other topics related to the war.

Like for me, that's where I started when I got into the topic of WWI, with an overview, and found myself interested in the causes of the war, which are one and many, from wars, treaties, social-economical factors, etc. But reading a book on Napoleon by itself won't tell you why he was a reason for events a hundred years later.

But yeah, I appreciate your comments and I'll take a look at updating/cleaning up the chart to make it clear for beginners in the subject.

Finally a chart for our demographic

I've read Behind the Veil and one of Fr. Spyridon's other books. While the former I think has some compelling things to say I think it doesn't work as a criticism of Yoga in general, sort of how The Soul After Death doesn't really put much effort into trying to refute the protestant or catholic understandings of death.
