Does a creative writing major have more depth than an English literature major in the history of literature?

A believe that the former has a better significant impact on people who want better writing capabilities, sometimes you'll find English majors who can write up a storm of essays and talk about the books they love so much in great depth but cant write a lick of fiction or poetry.

creative writing courses are a waste of time. why would i want to learn how to write from some random old geezer when i could learn straight from Shakespeare etc?
