That's an extreme example of the entire history of Christian theology, which is essentially just gentiles taking the Jewish holy texts, completely ignoring what Jewish tradition going back 600 years (the Babylonian Exile, around 600BC, is the creation of Jewish identity and theology as anything at all resembling what we know of it today) has said about these texts, and then divining meaning devoid of context from it plus the Gospels.

The Gold Digging Ants in Herodotus are a more literal example of what you're talking about, however.
