>Vigo has a special method of cross cutting the past - that is going nonchronologically. His is not so much the hunter's eye as the gardener's or botanist's. This he views our kinship with the plants as deeper than that with the animals, and feels that at night we return to the woods, indeed all the way to algae in the ocean.
>Among the animals, he says, the bees have rediscovered this kinship. Their mating with the flowers is neither a forward nor a backward step in evolution, it is a kind of supernova, a flashing of cosmological eros in a favorable conjunction. Even the boldest thinking has not yet hit on that, he says; the only things that are real are those that cannot be invented.
>Does he expect something similar in the human realm?
Holy shit this book is great. I'm only 20 pages in and its already got islamic mysticism, demons, bees, and weird exposition. If all of eumeswil is like this, I'm in for a fucking fantastic read. This is the only other book besides storm of steel I've read by him, but this shit takes the fucking cake.
Also general junger thread.

Which translation? There was one going around which I partially read a few years ago but I think it was an amateur. It was a piece of shit.

I've read it about 3-5 times since 2012. I am always nervous seeing Junger mentioned here though because he could easily be memed on Evola style which would be a massive blow because he should be engaged with seriously. Heidegger, Carl Schmitt and many other contemporaries engaged with him seriously and so should we. The distinct epochs of Junger's thought/development mean there is a Junger for all seasons. I would say right now is the day of the Waldganger

He is obviously steeped in the western canon. Most things he's said so far denote that he's very aware of the classics, metaphysics, and his own place in the history he's becoming a part of.

I read SoS and currently reading his journals from occupied Paris. It is like discovering buried treasure. Junger is gold.
