How is The Wheel of Time as far as entertainment goes? I know it isn't considered to have artistic merit. Thinking about picking it up for a fun read.

This is the first 6 books. Enjoy

- It's good
- It's long
- Some of the middle parts are mediocre at best, to bad
- The author has certain stylistic quirks which get very annoying

If you like epic fantasy, I would definitely check it out. It starts off fairly formulaic, but it definitely takes off, and by book 3 it's totally excellent.

To the extent that critique is valid, it's true of roughly books 5-10, not later.

Rand is the biggest mary sue you will ever see outside of fanfiction, where you can find the real thing. Just be forewarned.

Also, Perrin chapters will bore the shit out of you.

Everyone reads for Matt and company.

i liked the Perrin chapters thru Book 4 where he peaked then dramatically fell off. Luckily Mat's chapters became far more entertaining during Book 5 and onward.

Overall i find it a decent bit of reading. Jordan started losing his way a bit in later books, but there was still alot of parts that i liked.
