What I've been trying to do is get a basis in one language and then begin devleoping the next. I had to take Spanish in high school so I had a solid foundation there. Then I took Russian in college, while using Duolingo and books to maintain Spanish. Right now I'm starting on Latin. it seems possible, but I think it's very unlikely. I think it's probably a consequence of learning languages from flash cards and tests. You learn vocabulary as a 1:1 english:french, and when you are prompted with an English word, you remember multiple of those facts from different languages you have learn (see english word, try to translate it, get a bunch of answers). You should try regularly speaking and reading the language in question, to build a context relationship between the different words and grammar forms, so they encourage you to remember the right word when you prompt yourself with an English word to translate. I hope that makes sense.
