Wait, so fundamentally I'm God?

No, and people relating that kind of saying to Spinoza is demonstrative that
1) you know Spinoza has been described as a pantheist
2) you read the Wikipedia article for pantheism
3) you haven’t read the ethics to truly understand what natura naturans means

>> No.17111352

I've actually read the Ethics, maybe I'm just not getting it

>> No.17111374

>>17111352
Well duh, it's not as though it makes sense or anything.

>> No.17111393

>>17111374
It's the only thing that makes sense to me, why would an infinite, omnipotent being be separate from itself? But that necessarily implies I'm God as well, since there is nothing but God (by God I mean the substance we're all made of, not the meme christian God but I assume you've read Spinoza)

>> No.17111557

>>17111393
You shouldn't call it God then

>> No.17111881

>>17111393
The whole use of the word God is to demonstrate that it is irrelevant to understand what being and ethics are. Read the Ethics calmly, give it the air that it deserves (and thank me later).

>> No.17111918

>>17111393
You're confusing the relation of identity with the relation of inherence (maybe not precisely the right word but the best I can thing of for this relation). You're a mode of god's attributes, and of course the separation between you and god is in a way only conceptual since without God you could not be and according to Spinoza's complete determinism God could not be otherwise than for you to exist. But the effectively actual separation from you and what is apart from you consists in that your essence is your desires (conatus), which includes passions, and these are oriented differently from the conatus of all other modes. Since as book 4 makes clear the passions cannot be entirely eradicated, though you can align your will with the rest of nature to the best of your ability and thereby merge your will with god's will, you still necessarily have a unique, individual will, which you cannot you cannot conflate or even completely align with god's will. The most obvious example is this: for Spinoza, the will-to-live cannot be eradicated (it is essential - a denial of the will to life for Spinoza would be merely imaginary), and since you exist in time, this is a will to having an indefinite duration, which is against god's will. You can conceive yourself sub specie aeternitatis and understand your eternity outside of time, and therefore as a mode you can acquire understanding which is outside of time and is aligned with god's will, but you cannot eradicate passions which are inside of time. So it is consequential to the system's practical implications, that you are not identical to God, but inhere in God.

Lo! I am come to autumn,
When all the leaves are gold;
Grey hairs and golden leaves cry out
The year and I are old.

In youth I sought the prince of men,
Captain in cosmic wars,
Our Titan, even the weeds would show
Defiant, to the stars.

But now a great thing in the street
Seems any human nod,
Where shift in strange democracy
The million masks of God.

In youth I sought the golden flower
Hidden in wood or wold,
But I am come to autumn,
When all the leaves are gold.

Apu. I hope that I filled your life with the spark of joy and as a way to enlighten your shadowself with the taste of knowledge. I have lived many lives and have tried my best to show the few the right path of life: contemplation. Guénon (pbuh) was one of my disciples.
To revert back to one of my prior existence, and fear not for I have translated my wisdom to the modern vulgar tongue of English, here it is as my previous reincarnations as Seneca:
>Nature has bestowed upon us an inquiring disposition, and being well aware of her own skill and beauty, has produced us to be spectators of her vast works, because she would lose all the fruits of her labour if she were to exhibit such vast and noble works of such complex construction, so bright and beautiful in so many ways, to solitude alone.
>Nature has bestowed upon us an inquiring disposition, and being well aware of her own skill and beauty, has produced us to be spectators of her vast works, because she would lose all the fruits of her labour if she were to exhibit such vast and noble works of such complex construction, so bright and beautiful in so many ways, to solitude alone.
>take nothing away from what Nature bestowed upon him, even then man is too mortal for the comprehension of immortality. I live according to Nature, therefore, if I give myself entirely up to her, and if I admire and reverence her. Nature, however, intended me to do both, to practise both contemplation and action: and I do both, because even contemplation is not devoid of action.
