A few reasons:
1. Most popular mainstream religion by far, entices people to do a counter-cultural push against it
2. Postmodernist cunts seeking to disguise their tearing down of conservative values under simple satire
3. Religion in general has lost appeal and value as people in general have become more cynical and religious institutions' hypocrisies have become more apparent. Christianity simply is an easier target because critics know Christians won't, say, burn down a district in some retaliatory riot or actively seek to destroy someone's career in retribution, like you might expect from some Muslim or Judaist sects.

Social Justice is the logical end state of Christianity, perfectly honed to spread across the globe and unite all of mankind under one religion, one culture, one language, one mind. It did so by shedding unnecessary baggage. A creator deity, salvation, that Jesus guy, all unnecessary. A tight, streamlined package is left. nationalism says race is everything, marx says class is everything, capitalists say wealth is everything, liberals say universal humanism is everything, and they all hold this dear. they will defend their political beliefs with religious fervor. their beliefs are tied to their identity and what they consider good and just.

political ideology promises a worldview, a set of answers, moral framework, and cause to strive for that religion used to. even the religious in the modern world have been infected by the skepticism and secularism of the age to an extent. it is not the same as when god was intrinsic to the west.

these all fulfill religious impulse. they all consider themselves righteous and everyone else who disagrees with their worldview in the way to their utopia. religious impulses will be filled in the void of god or spirituality. people will seek meaning and actualization through other sources in that void, perhaps far more destructive than religion ever was.

Generally this applies to all ethical framework, literally everything that people have in their heads right now is in support of the industrial system, it's not about community. Like the reason why people are told not to be racist or homophobic is because you can't have tensions, it has nothing to do with community. At the same time all intrinsic bonds e.g. family, spouses, etc. have been dismantled because they take one's focus away from the system. Environmentalism is the same, people stared "caring" about the environment just because the industrial system might not be sustainable, there's no real concern about poisoning your neighbor's water. Like people don't give a fuck about anything anymore except supporting the system. It's pretty insane when you think about it logically how fucking enslaved people are to the industrial model, and since they're already dedicated to it with the same religious fervor by which people in the past just assumed that God existed, there's no more room for any other form of religious devotion.
