I'm guilty of this. In the last couple years I've become a bit obsessed with Eastern Europe and Russia. I think it's (obviously) a reaction to how incredibly awful the West I know has become. East Europe is (so they say) some 10-15 years "behind" and there's a certain conservative spirit as far as the arts go. I am sure there are more shitty people and lowlifes than there are in my country or the US, but I also think there might be really good people here and there, that have been absorbed by the system in the West. People who have a fire inside, who make true art, etc. I am willing to live in a shithole to get in touch with these people, somehow. I can't stand the comfortable hell of the globalized modern West.

I don't know. I understand what you are saying, and I was convinced of the same things but I simply do not want to participate to a globalized society anymore. When everything revolves around a few global themes there is simply no room for art. People in the West have also accelerated to a point where they have no attention span, and I simply don't feel like there's room for things like. Honestly when you look at the past, the art that came out of the period was in line with the times. Times of freedom and creativity led to crazy, creative art. Times of tragedy made sober, introspective art. These times in this West as it is configured right now can only create really dumb entertainment and I just can't bear to live in a world with no culture. It's really hard to do this in a bubble, whether it's a bubble in your local reality or the internet which is the worst bubble of all.

I took a russian course at uni and realized too late what kind of poor, ugly and stupid subhumans they are, if I had known I would have chosen Portuguese, and even if you were able to master Russian from literary sources, you'll have to learn the language twice because Russians are so fucking repulsive their spoken language is completely different from the written one because of the enormous varieties of slangs and abbreviations that these motherfuckers use in their daily lives. You can learn to speak proper Spanish and English from a textbook and literature, but forget ever being able to master Russian if you'll never visit the country firsthand, and even if you do it, I doubt you'd last a day among these barely evolved monkeys before they'd gang up on you and beat you up within an inch of your life like the unhinged animals that they are. There's a solid reason you see shit like webm related only in Russia.

Friendship values? I don't know where you got that from. Friends in Russia are just the same as here in the U.S for me. Every image you have of Russia will be shattered when you move there. Unless you're in Moscow or St. Petersburg, which are (right now) just as good as any other city in Europe.

I guess if you like the language you can move to one of the above cities. But you are better off not going with unreasonable expectations. Speaking from experience though, Russia will break your spirit. It is really, really not a good place to live.

But I must disclaim, my version of Russia ends at about 2011 when I moved here to the US. So your mileage may vary I guess. But judging by my family back home... it still sucks..
