I'm always skeptical if someone says a book (or other piece of art) changed their life. Why?

Have you never read a self help book? I mean it doesn't change your life instantly but over time it does.

I'd say it should take a lot for a book to significantly change your life.
Your worldview is on rather weak footing, otherwise.

Most self help books tell you stuff you already know. Self help books are for procrastinators who want to feel like they're making progress but they're actually not.

Persuasion & Rhetoric changed the way I look at life and what I feel like I need to do with it. Idk that it’s had so much change on my lived life in action to this point.

The phrasing of this questioned always troubled me. Something completely external is not going to "change your life," that's done entirely on your own volition. Books, film, or anything in the realm of arts can affect your outlooks on life, but ultimately you have control as to whether or not to internalize and incorporate this into your actual lifestyle. The phrase "changed your life" sounds so dramatic, it's almost like asking "what book shocked you?" and that is a completely different question than "what book was most impactful on you?"

It sounds retarded and I will get shit from the pseuds here but unironically the light novel Welcome to the NHK.

I dip into it occasionally to read it again. I feel a kinship with Sato like no other character.

Books have absolutely changed my life by leading me to explore new interests or adopt new values.
Stoner led to a reading habit, and Beyond Band of Brothers by Richard Winters helped me become more disciplined and care for others.
Various other books help me improve my writing, relate to other people, and have more interesting things to say in conversation.

Haven't read it. If the author's YT clips give any indication though, Sleep Solution probably shares in a lot of the practical advice but focuses on mindset as well (it incorporates what's called CBT-I.)
