I had a very poor mathematics education that i want to remedy. Can any math/STEMfags here tell me if this chart is actually good or a meme?

>> No.16829641

>>16829463
The chart as a whole is a meme, but it has some worthwhile books.
You should choose between How to Prove it and Book of Proof, then read Basic Mathematics and finally Calculus by Spivak.
For each book you should complete at least half the exercises of each section before going forward.
If you manage that, you will have a better mathematical intuition than 80% of /sci/ retards.

Thank you anon. Any reason for Spivak over Apostol?

>> No.16829771

>>16829671
You're welcome.
Apostol is a good book, but Spivak will give you the "essence" of calculus. It will make you understand the mindset of coming up with proofs and how to apply them.
It also contains great exercises that will get your nogging going and test you beyond just regurgitating theorems.

Apostol contains multivariable calculus while Spivak doesn't: in my opinion however, if you care primarily about the math and not its applications, then you are better off picking up an analysis book such as Terence Tao's or Abbott's. Regardless, you need not worry about it at this stage. Just focus on getting sturdy foundations and the rest of math will be a breeze.

>> No.16834661

Flow charts are the dumbest and most pointless shit ever. Literally just pick up a book and read and decide if you enjoy it or if you want to read more by the author. Or read the wikipedia page before hand to see if you would be interested. I swear, people need to be told how to live their life so much it's fucking depressing.

Chart designed to waste some chumps time.

Get precalculus knowledge if you don't have it using Stitz & Zeager's book (my choice, there are others). Then read one of those calculus books, I prefer Apostol.

You can use one of those proof books as a reference if you get stuck but those books have enough examples it should be no trouble.
