Well, for one thing, it doesn't like gays, and Vidal is only using "Confucianism" as a non-Abrahamic standin, and is only using "Christianity and Islam" as standins for "things that don't let me pack fudge" so really, he's not arguing against Abrahamic religion per se as much as he is anything that doesn't let him wallow in vice (Confucianism doesn't let you do this by the way).

Secondly, Confucianism is responsible for China as we've known it since Qin Shi Huangdi's day. If it wasn't for the Confucian Scholar-Bureaucrats making an imperial bureaucracy, Qin Shi Huangdi's empire likely would have collapsed a generation or two after his death and broken China up in a billion pieces again. China does of course always shatter and recombine, but this would be a shattering that would never result in a reunion, resulting in a minor collection of feudal states getting bullied by nomads instead of a world power.

Confucianism, as >>16822811 said, is also the single most Conservative philosophy out there and is supremely concerned with practical ordering of human affairs and the accumulation of virtue. Unless you are a robot brained materialist NPC you should be interested in Confucianism because it can easily be repurposed for basically any culture or religious tradition on the planet (this is intentional on Confucius' part).
