I haven't thought about that book is so many years. It was my favorite book in elementary school and I probably read through it at least 5 times

The Wealth of Nations. No I am serious, I hated my university courses and dropped out because I hated compsci but was in it "for the money". Wealth of Nations made me very interested in economics and society at large and I went back and got my degree in Economics and actually enjoyed my time.

It's really a history book more than anything else, but very interesting portions focusing on certain members of classes within society, and frequently how they may reap advantages over others needlessly.

That's really economics purpose, in my opinion: is to minimize that behavior as much as possible.

tao te ching, the death of ivan ilyich, and listening to a lot of elton john (as opposed to sad music). just made me pause, realize i shouldnt really give a fuck about anything, and just continue to live a life i want to live until i fuckin die. i took action to remove myself from a lot of the stressful things in my life (got a new job w/ a big pay raise and great team, cared more about health, changed my hobbies, kinda reinvented myself but not really).

The Epic of Gilgamesh reminded me that some of our suffering has been a shared experience across time and that none of us are alone in it

>> No.16819577

>>16818788
The Epic of Gilgamesh didn't really change my life, but reading a 4000-year-old story about coping with the inevitable nature of your death was a strangely comforting experience. A really nice slice of perspective.
