I hate how this is a dirty word. If you're not reacting to things that are happening, what are you doing? The implication is that you should be trying to shape the world into a reflection of your ideology instead of reacting to it. It's one of those buzzwords that seem specifically engineered to cut off rational discussion at the stem, like "black lives matter." On a linguistic level, these catchphrases set up a discussion based on specific parameters which supercede anything you might say. If you say there's nothing wrong with being a reactionary you can and will be attacked for "just reacting" instead of forging blithely ahead with the master plan, which is of course completely beyond reproach. In the same vein, if you disagree with the tenets of BLM, the nature of the phrase sets its defenders up for an immediate straw man argument: if you disagree with them, you disagree that black lives actually "matter," and the whole can of worms that goes along with that. I'm entirely unconvinced that the whole "reactionary" meme isn't a different implementation of the same fundamental philosophy towards discourse.

I just find the whole thing slimy and self-serving.
