This is alright, from what I remember. Has a very broad interpretation of escapism though, as in the general desire to be somewhere else. He argues that it has some psychological merit as a means to explore other possibilities than the status quo through fantasies.

yee i kinda came to like escapism and fatalism, would be nice to see a perspective which acknowledges it´s perceived patheticness but still knows it´s a pretty honest philosophy if you are sincere about it.

I would prefer to have super cringe friends who play DnD and have their own head canon about tv shows
than a /lit/ reader who is an pseudo stoic tradcell and worships the romans.

Life is varying degrees of escapism anyway, people reeing against escapists are just escaping their own need to escape, their form of escapism is based on escaping the feeling that whatever experience they are having, meaningful or otherwise, boils down to some type of escapism

Tolkien defends Escapism properly understood in his essay On Fairy Stories. “Evidently we are faced by a misuse of words, and also by a confusion of thought. Why should a man be scorned if, finding himself in prison, he tries to get out and go home? Or if, when he cannot do so, he thinks and talks about other topics than jailers and prison-walls?”

This is the exact opposite for me, because unlike you I am all too aware of the former entail and had the misfortune of dealing with their worthless superficialities for years. They are genuinely shit people, and at the least the /lit/ pseud tradcel has a real person underneath the fantasy they elaborately crafted for themselves.

Reminder that you can't be a 4chan regular and also be against escapism. Every time you come here you're escaping to an online world where nobody knows who you are, you're never held accountable for your actions, and you can talk about whatever you want, whenever you want, uninhibited (with some restrictions, obviously, but still far fewer than real life).
