A combination of luck and decent ideas. He takes on the university system and mainstream media, which, as it happened, came under fire in 2014 with g*amerg*te and has come more and more into mainstream politics. He happened to set the referent for the modern sense of "red pill" and provide a pretty interesting and useful analysis of "the Cathedral".

Not perfect. Not a world-changing philosopher, but he did some decent stuff, it spread throughout the internet and then he got lucky in that his stuff became popular
