He preceded much of what Nietzsche would do in his philosophy by a solid 40 or so years. And with a very unique style, which I don't think Nietzsche quite understood in any other than a piercing relation of Nietzsche to his understanding of Carlyle's personality-- But of course that's just Nietzsche, with all his arrogance too. From his existentialism (which it should be regarded came before Kierkegaard) and particular moral orientation, a naturalistic self-arising character, to his Hero-worship and rejection of the valet-soul, and an array of other undesirables of the same spirit.

I really wish /lit/ were better at trying to share its personal favorite authors that are not ubiquitously known.
I have seen plenty of threads posted on him (I recognize his face) but never cared to look into one of them because of shitty one line OPs like OPs which is only slightly acceptable because he somehow pretended like trying to bring up controversy regarding Nietzsche and this guy, whose writting seems incredibly interesting.

One can't and shouldn't always type out a massive paragraph to start a thread, in this case I wasn't trying to bring up controversy but an intellectual discussion regarding Nietzsche and Carlyle, and Carlyle in general.

His writings are very interesting indeed, and that was evidently implied by ironically presenting his Sartor Resartus as better than Zarathustra.
