Was thinking about buying and reading this, can someone give me a quick rundown on what it's about? I like knowing some broad points about the book before going in.

You should first read On the Fourfold Root of the Principle of Sufficient Reason. I think Schopenhauer is generally one of the easier German philosophers to understand but you should follow that order to get the most out of his work. Archive dot org has them for free.
