It's not easy to become a monk -- and I don't mean applying to become one. You have to go through a LOT of training to be ordained and most people can't hack it.

Because Buddhism is fucking gay.
That's #1 and I just want to make it very clear for everyone, that if you're a buddhist, you are a retard. Like seriously fucking retarded. Okay? Okay.

Now, becoming a monk is also bad because you don't get to fuck anymore, and that sucks. Celibacy is only for a certain kind of person, it's definitely not for everyone. Now I know not all monks are celibate, but most of them are.

Also the third reason why most people should not become a monk is because it requires dissassociation. You literally have to crush quite a bit of your self in order to progress as a monk. For most people this stands in opposition with happiness. Most people are fulfilled and happy when they are immersed into their own experience and are in touch with their self. Monks are the fringe weirdoes who are actually worse off by being authentic to who they are. People like this do exist, but they are the exception and not the rule.

Basically just accept yourself for who you are and learn to be happy with it, if you can't find a way to do that, consider becoming a monk.

Not to give away too much but yeah basically you can be given an apprenticeship for a certain amount of time (usually 8 months to a year) and at the end of that year decide wether or not you'd like to stay and become a permanent resident.
