This. The board is centrist, nodding slightly left, slightly right maybe, but pretty much in the middle. Always has been. In these extreme times a third option (center) should have been added if for no other reason then to see who actually is on the left or right here.

It's not a good basis for evaluating nuance, but it is a great way of filtering for stances on general policies. A simple left/right can tell you, generally, where someone may stand on a lot of important topics. Yeah, it's a bit pseud, but it's even more pseud to discount it entirely.

Cope. If you cannot see how reductive left-right is to look at political discourse, it means that your political discourse is stuck within the mainstream of the last 2 centuries. This is how you get Americans who love democracy and Capitalism using the word “liberal” as an insult for other people, and go on to conflate things as opposed as liberalism and communism because they have no proper frame of reference beyond their own country’s political parties.
Enjoy being stubbornly retarded.

Yes, a bloated incoherent branch of history that is contextualized by many other countries and ideologies in a arbitrary manner.

>contextualized by many other countries and ideologies in a arbitrary manner.
Who are you to deem it arbitrary? I think it's a very good way to describe politics. If someone is on the far right, I instantly know that I will agree with them on many topics. If someone is on the far left, I instantly know that I will disagree with them on many topics. The only exception to this, perhaps, are anarcho-capitalists. Libertarians will identify as left or right leaning libertarians depending on their values.

People that reject the left/right dichotomy are retarded tryhards who don't understand politics and think reflecting the hatred of the American Democrat/Republican party system onto the greater left/right political dichotomy will make them seem smart. If you can't find the strong similarities between people on the "left" and between people on the "right" you aren't intelligent enough to be talking about whether or not it's a worthwhile colloquialism.
