>Gravity's Rainbow
There are definitely books I've enjoyed reading more (not many) but there isn't another work of fiction I respect more. Gravity's Rainbow lives and breathes in a way no other novel I've ever read does. It's a magnificent, playful shitpost that somehow manages to concurrently run through a hugely broad swathe of the human experience. It's also just an incredibly significant work from a literary standpoint, managing to present something truly unique in the post-Finnegan era. Reading GR requires a different way of not just reading fiction, but of absorbing information. You're constantly bombarded with tangents, technical esoterica, arbitrarily named people/places introduced without explanation, and obtuse language. Pynchon will decide he needs to create a new name something that will never appear again, and he'll introduce it as if he expects you to already know about it. This doesn't scratch the surface of Pynchon's authorial idiosyncrasies, but it's my favorite. It's complete fucking chaos, and it's absolutely beautiful.

listen to a diverse selection of the more popular pieces and see what you have the greatest connection listening to then get more into that direction. classical is vast and you have to actively engage with the music to get its emotional appeal
