Hey /lit/, this might be a weird question, but ive become intrigued with the concept of pain and suffering as positive forces.
Basically, in initiation rites, people who have to suffer/endure more to pass, tend to be far more loyal to that particular organization than those who had to do very little to get into it. People who have to suffer a lot together tend to form stronger bonds than people who dont.

This psychological phenomenon fascinates me, and im really curious on whether people have written about it more.

It is unironically "coping". Coping with reality. Coping with pain being inevitable, so whoever can take more is the strongest, etc etc.

>pain is weakness leaving the body
Not sure how true that is but it resonates with me.

Ignore the muh cope posters, because by definition they're also only coping.

Thats more just a platitude (though it has a core of truth). Im talking more about the real psychological effect that hardship has one people.

Collective suffering bring people together, look at all populations that suffered the most, they are the more "soudé" (not sure how to say this in English). Historical examples are the polish and the Russians.

That's sous-vide anon, but soudé means when they are tight in spirit with each other as individuals within a collective

I haven’t finished it yet but H.G. Wells time machine has a race of humans that have degenerated in their evolution because the lack of pain, suffering, want, etc

They spend their days wasting away content, you would have to read it to get a better understanding on his theory of them (there’s a second race that lives underground but like I said I haven’t finished it)

You know individualism and collectivism are two faces of the same coin and that when someone speaks of collectivism more often than not they are referencing totality and using the word wrong
