I had a pretty shitty childhood by today's standards, but decent enough considering how bad it could have been during my time period. The lack of a paternal figure in my life might have steered me towards falling in love with a man who could be my father. Also, I need to lock my door at night because I live with a dangerous lunatic.

So the character I am thinking of is a little goblin from Königsberg and he pretty much set the limits of contemporary science with his criticism and deconstruction attempt of metaphysics.
It seems like you can't get around him if you do not actively try to go beyond his limits by having your assumptions already be beyond, because otherwise you will fall under the fallacies he laid out.
