get a camping tent, food for 2 days, go alone deep into a forest, no wifi/gps, and read The Antichrist 2-3 times in a row.

That makes sense. What do you think he thought was one‘s compass to selbstüberwindung?

Why did it take so long? I understood him easily the first time I read him. Pretty straightforward stuff.

Instinct honestly. I like to apply Schopenhauers metaphysics with Nietzsche's Ethics and it usually makes things come together.
Overtaxing usually is also a good compass if you ask me

>instinct
Would you say one‘s sense of dignity is a pointer to our instinct? Meaning that if we feel like our dignity is being violated, it‘s our instincts telling us to stop whatever is happening so we can overcome humanity?

I would say more in terms of goals. It's easy to question our wants but it would be better to just accept them and follow through with them, both materially and mentally/spiritually. It would be easier to think in terms of "overcoming resistances"

You have a vision of potential right? What is hindering the accomplishment of that potential? The more you move closer to your potential the more meaningful your life will be and this requires overcoming resistences. You must also let go of empiricism (especially in todays climate where nothing besides empiricism is accepted) if you want to have any sort of faith, even in yourself. Empiricism is the true enemy of greatness

>> No.16254906

Indeed.
But what is the resistance standing between man and greatness? Weakness?

>But what is the resistance standing between man and greatness? Weakness?
Yes. Reading Heidegger and Peter Sloterdijk makes you realize that its nearly impossible today to have any sort of secession from the world, even in secular practices.
I didn't like Evolas take on Nietzsche because it relies too much in attitude and not in practice. Sloterdijk is (in my opinion) the one who really got Nietzsche right so I encourage you to read him if you want.
I like seeing the individual as someone who makes himself through practice and I believe its important to let go of deterministic concepts like personality or destiny.
Set new heights whenever you reach one, practice, willingfully suspend belief in empiricism and be bold and patient to achieve strenght. Its not okay to be doubtful in today's skeptic world

>let go of deterministic concepts like personality or destiny
Those are synonymous with weakness to me. It‘s giving up without even trying.
Thanks for the rec, i haven‘t read any sloterdijk yet. What do you think happened that nietzsche himself could not apply his insights?

>What do you think happened that nietzsche himself could not apply his insights?

Nietzsche was a very sick man all his life, it is one thing to give advice and another to follow through it. I still think his insights hold true, but It really is necessary to have strenght and boldness to follow through his ethics, which he apparently didn't have

I'm going to sound like a disgusting pseud saying this, but there are two ways to understand Nietzsche: Understanding him in your head and understanding him in your heart. If you understand him in your heart, you will forever wonder why he is so popular with depressed teenagers.

>Understanding him in your head and understanding him in your heart. If you understand him in your heart, you will forever wonder why he is so popular with depressed teenagers.

Heart. I've read all his works for more than a year now, but only in this past year and a half have I REALLY understood him by reflecting on my own experiences and struggles. I see why he would appeal to depressed teenagers but that target audience is so far off to who Nietzsche was adressing
