Reading lit that only agrees with you is the antithesis of lit. It is right up there with the 800 pounder confined to bed complaining that there is no one on TV like them.

Not really. Well written books will contain the arguments of stuff they're writing against so you still get exposed to the opposite opinion. Only when you feel an author is not adaquetley addressing something should you look elsewhere... Unless you're some kind of academic that wants full coverage of some topic or other

I don't really care what people read, nor am I particularly open minded, I just see no point in reading things that do not cause me to question my beliefs. Reading only things you agree with is just masturbation and the sign of a weak minded individual, you are just looking for things to reinforce your beliefs, you know you have nothing to stand on so you cling to anything that will help maintain the lies you tell yourself.

If there's a topic the Saints have written on it.
St. Aquinas is a brilliant writer.
Those who aren't official saints that are good are Chesterton, Lewis, Mussolini, de Maistre, Robert Filmer.

I like St. Bedes history of the English.
St. Jerome's work I'm told is useful.
When it comes to theology I'm honestly just starting.
I've been using the Saints as historical references.
St. Augustine's City of God Against the Pagans is great.
I like the first 5 books a lot due to his scathing criticism of Pagans.
The rest is more theological and does quite a bit to help explain parts of Christianity simply.
>>16251138
Everyone goes through purgatory to be purified.
As such we should read nothing by your logic.

What if you read ideas that are bad and seduce you.
Ie people can write books that are enticing and even hyponotic that could have a profound influence on you especially if you are alone and in a vulnerable state of mind.
Thats basically how cult brainwashing works except you basically do it yourself in ignorance.

Id also say reading books that disagree with you could be a massive waste of time because you ultimately gain nothing, From my perspective I tend to cherry pick or practice discernment as there are things I can agree and disagree with over a writers assessment or I integrate their views into my own and not just absorb their ideas without any critical thought.

Also when it comes to fictional universes I'll tend to use my creative imagination to fix their story because sometimes their interpretation or themes are just plain wrong or are embracing satanic brainwashing without realizing it thus perverting the message of their work.

This. If you can't handle exposure to and exploration of ideas from points of view divergent from your own, you'll never develop real confidence in your own ideas. A common result of the failure to do this is to compensate for the confidence they can't have with an egregious, almost satirical quality of arrogant certainty in their own ideas.
