so basically our reason tells us that there is only one substance, which means all of this is in some sense connected and we have no radical break between things, we perceive certain things different because of different attributes of the substance. if everything is made up of causal chains and the same substance, we can use reason and understand those to get the full picture of a thing. people who do not use reason but their imagination (which works as an effect of egoism) think that things around you work for humans, they create gods, think there is beauty and ugliness in the world and so on. but the real world is neutral causal chain which creates certain quantities of power here and there. human is such a quantity of power. if he increases it, he is happy, if he loses it he is sad. so basically ethics is saying lets look at what increases our power and what makes us lose it. spinoza thinks that when you understand what brings you down you have power over that thing, so praise intellect. at the end spinoza favors rational thinking over imagination, causal explanation over agency, happyness and power over depression and he is against judgement, we have to be cool and understand everything.

it is pretty hard, but with some kind of secondary lit you should be fine. it is kind of catchy in a way, even if at the start it looks really obscure. you know, its like that with a lot of phi literature. you read, you dont understand shit then you read some more and at some point you break trough.
